The Nutcracker's A Night at the Ballet

Sharing the Holidays with Acadiana Children and Families in Need

November 23, 2022

As Lafayette Ballet Theatre  (LBT) prepares for its 22nd performance of THE NUTCRACKER, the organization and community partners have come together to provide children and families with special needs a magical holiday experience.

A Night at the Ballet, an educational outreach program established by LBT in 1996, provides 150 complimentary tickets to LBT’s evening performance of THE NUTCRACKER BALLET on Saturday, December 10th. Each season 150 ticket vouchers are provided to families and children currently seeking assistance in area shelters, special needs and service clubs.

Some of 2022 guest organizations include Steel Magnolia Youth Group, Faith House, Light House, Healing House, Hearts of Hope, Big Brothers/ Big Sisters, Lafayette Parish Special Education students, DREAM Foundation of Acadiana, Boys & Girls Clubs of Acadiana.

“Dance is a fundamental part of education and life.” said Shannon Heath, LBT Co-director. “A Night at the Ballet is an inclusive outreach program that provides access for children in our community to experience performing arts. It’s a program that is very close to my heart.”

This full-length classical ballet in two acts features Lafayette Ballet Theatre professional company dancers, principal guest artists from the Pacific Northwest Ballet (Seattle) and approximately 150 children studying ballet in local academies. The show promises a magical experience as talented artists, dazzling stage sets, spectacular special effects and Peter Tchaikovsky’s delightful musical score bring this engaging E.T.A. Hoffmann tale to life before their eyes!

Lafayette Ballet Theatre will present two performances of “The Nutcracker” at 7 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 10, and 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 11, in the Heymann Performing Arts Center.

Tickets are available now through the Heymann Center Box Office or any Ticketmaster outlet.
